Our experienced team of advocates offer culturally-sensitive support for families in the child welfare system, with emphasis on Black and Brown families.
Through education and consistent support, we enable family stability, self-advocacy, and self-esteem.
The main purpose of I.B.J.'s Advocacy Division is to increase access to legal services to the vulnerable communities who need legal aid. We prioritize Black and Brown community members, but advocate for all!
We educate community members, promote social justice events, and host our own events which enrich and inform. Our events are lead by trailblazers in the fight for equity and local activists.
C.H.I.M.E.S. Prevention is for expecting parents and parents of infants 0-13 months of age. This program: educates new parents on habits and behaviors that can lead to CPS involvement, increases access ccess to the C.H.I.M.E.S. network of culturally-relevant providers and experts, and compensates participants for successful completion of the program.
The BABAS Group supports fathers on their journey to reunification and family stability. This program uses culturally responsive practices and trauma-informed care to guide participants through systemic challenges while fostering healing and resilience. Fathers learn to advocate for themselves, manage emotional triggers, and build enduring connections with their children in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
F.E.M.I. is a safe and nurturing group designed for mothers who have experienced the trauma of child removal and reunification. Over 10 weeks, participants explore their experiences, gain tools to heal, explore ways to reconnect with their children, and grow stronger as individuals. Through therapy, mindfulness, and peer support in a judgment-free space, F.E.M.I. fosters a sense of hope, resilience, and community.
Parents for Parents (P4P) provides parents with an active dependency, support and encouragement, strengthening hope. With lived experience of being involved in the child welfare system, parent allies share their firsthand knowledge to prove that family preservation is possible.
The Institute for Black Justice (I.B.J.) T.O.R.C.H. Consulting engages in direct-advocacy efforts in multiple settings to increase equity! This service includes options for: individual client consultation, evalutation of practices, and trainings.
Project Gideon centers on vacating certain Washington State convictions, relief from legal financial obligations, and restoration of civil rights. I.B.J. provides legal advocacy to marginalized community members through referrals to legal partners.
The Black Robe Podcast is a provocative discussion of social issues that directly impact the Black community. The Black Robe Podcast acts as the judge of the system which produces, perpetuates, and protects acts of injustice.
On Saturday, February 28, 2026, we will gather for our 5th Anniversary Liberation Gala, an evening of inspiration, culture, and commitment. This year’s keynote speaker is the extraordinary Dorothy Roberts, award-winning author of Torn Apart, whose groundbreaking work calls us to imagine a world where families and communities thrive free from systemic harm.
