Facilitated Empowerment of Mothers and Infants

FEMI is a safe and nurturing group designed for mothers who have experienced the trauma of child removal and reunification. Over 10 weeks, participants explore their experiences, gain tools to heal, explore ways to reconnect with their children, and grow stronger as individuals. Through therapy, mindfulness, and peer support in a judgment-free space, FEMI fosters a sense of hope, resilience, and community

About FEMI

Trauma-Informed Care Framework

Our group is led by a licensed, trauma-informed clinical psychologist and co-facilitated by experienced mothers and peer support specialists in training. We provide a safe, compassionate space for mothers to heal from complex trauma, shame, and systemic challenges.

Our sessions prioritize physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, empowering you to share and heal at your own pace.

Group Therapy Approach

Our 10-week group therapy program offers weekly 90-minute sessions in a small, supportive setting of 6–10 participants, fostering trust and connection. Each session blends structured activities—such as psychoeducation and mindfulness practices—with open sharing, creating a space for personal growth and communal healing. Research shows that group therapy provides emotional support, reduces isolation, and enhances coping skills by allowing participants to share experiences and learn from one another.

By engaging in this collective healing process, you gain insight, resilience, and a deeper sense of connection.

Culturally Responsive Practices

We recognizes the systemic and cultural factors that shape experiences of family separation and reunification, ensuring a supportive and inclusive space for all participants. Facilitators integrate culturally relevant interventions, honoring diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. Culturally responsive, trauma-informed care is essential for effective healing, as it validates identity and builds trust.

By addressing both personal and systemic challenges, we create a space where healing is not only possible but deeply meaningful.

Holistic Interventions

The FEMI program incorporates mindfulness, grounding techniques, and somatic practices to help release trauma stored in the body, fostering a deeper sense of safety and connection. Creative expressions such as journaling, art, and storytelling may also be integrated, offering powerful tools for self-reflection and empowerment. Somatic practices have been shown to help regulate the nervous system and reduce trauma symptoms, while creative expression facilitates nonverbal outlets for processing deep emotional wounds.

By engaging both body and mind, participants can access new pathways to healing and resilience.
