Project Gideon is a statewide legal relief initiative led by the Institute for Black Justice (IBJ) in collaboration with law firms, minority bar associations, and community-based organizations. It helps people affected by past drug possession convictions in Washington State, especially those made unconstitutional by the 2021 State v. Blake decision.
Through legal education events, individualized consultations, and support services, Project Gideon assists eligible residents, particularly those in Pierce County and beyond, in vacating convictions, reducing sentences, obtaining refunds of court fees, and restoring their civil rights. The project also fosters community partnerships to enhance access to justice and promote long-term recovery from the adverse effects of criminal records.
At the Institute for Black Justice, we are committed to advocating for the civil rights of all individuals. Our experienced network of attorneys specializes in a wide range of cases, including civil rights violations, police misconduct, constitutional violations, and family law. We believe in fighting for justice and equality for all.
Our team can provide up to $1,000 in legal support to help with family law or civil matters that are impacting your family's ability to thrive.
Our team provides you with an attorney to help you get started on the vacation of a Blake or Drug-related conviction.
Information sessions to learn more about removing your Drug-related conviction from your record are scheduled for:
